Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of BYD in Pakistan, has renewed its partnership for the BYD Karachi Marathon for the second consecutive year, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the growth of running in Pakistan and creating opportunities for local athletes. As part of the renewed partnership, MMC will also launch She Runs, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative designed to encourage and support women’s participation in running ahead of the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, scheduled for January 3.
The BYD Karachi Marathon, Pakistan’s first World Athletics-Certified marathon, brings together local and international runners while providing Pakistani athletes with a platform to compete against globally recognized standards. Through its Vision 2032, the marathon also aims to establish a pathway for Pakistani runners to qualify for major international marathons and, ultimately, the Olympic Games.
Through She Runs, MMC will fund a structured 10-week marathon training programme for 10 selected women from Karachi. Participants will receive support across endurance training, nutrition, physiotherapy, safety and well-being, providing them with the preparation and resources needed to take on the race.
Talking about the She Runs initiative, Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin & CSR at Mega Motor Company, added: “At Mega Motor Company, we believe that empowering women begins with creating opportunities for them to realise their potential and pursue their ambitions. Through She Runs, we aim to make marathon running more accessible to women by providing 10 aspiring runners from Karachi with the structured training, guidance and support they need to prepare for and complete a full marathon. The initiative reflects our commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for women to challenge their limits, build confidence and achieve goals they may not have otherwise considered within reach.”
Shoaib Nizami, Founder of Karachi Marathon, added: “MMC’s continued partnership has helped advance our vision of establishing running as a mainstream sport in Pakistan. This year, we aim to make the BYD Karachi Marathon bigger and more inclusive, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities while creating pathways for aspiring runners to pursue international competitions. We are also introducing a category for differently abled participants. Initiatives such as She Runs further support our vision by helping more women prepare for and participate in the marathon through professional training and a safe, supportive environment.”
The BYD Karachi Marathon 2027 will feature full marathon, half marathon, relay and 5K categories, bringing together runners from Pakistan and abroad. Registrations are now open for all categories, and interested participants can register at www.karachimarathon.org/. Through its continued partnership, BYD-MMC aims to contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s running culture, promote greater inclusivity in sport and support local talent in pursuing their ambitions.
