Netflix making its moves

Netflix has gone on to announce a new plan for the sake of sub-Saharan African countries – including the likes of Nigeria. The new plan is a mobile-only one and is now the cheapest one that the streaming service goes on to offer within the region.

Prior to the announcement of the same, Netflix actually offered three plans in Nigeria: a basic plan costing $7 per month – this being available to watch on a phone, tablet, or a computer or TV in SD. The standard plan was priced at $9 per month and the premium plan being offered for $11.

The new mobile plan costs $3 per month and is about the same price as the cheapest monthly data plans offered by mobile network operators within the country. However, we do in fact expect some or indeed all of these operators to announce special data plans which happen to be designed around the new Netflix plan.

This new particular plan of course works only on phones and tablets and the resolution is capped at 480p. Users will also be able to download movies offline and will also be able to enjoy the new play partial download feature which of course has the potential to allow them to begin to watch a movie or indeed an episode before the download is even complete.

All in a though, it’s actually quite clear that Netflix is indeed making moves across the entire globe in an attempt to make sure that everyone knows that Netflix is available for them – at the very cheapest. It’s a business model that is likely to attract many more people to the streaming service and is likely to make people believe and see Netflix as somewhat of a necessity rather than a luxury. Let’s see how it all pans out for the company though.
