Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Release of IMT Spectrum at the Finance Division today. The focus was on the enhancement of next-generation mobile broadband services in Pakistan. This significant gathering underscored the government’s commitment to advancing digital infrastructure and improving connectivity nationwide.
During the meeting, various issues were discussed, and the progress of work by the US-based consultant firm NERA, hired by the PTA in November 2024 under PPRA Rules/EPADS, was reviewed. NERA has been tasked with studying and assessing the Pakistan market, consulting with stakeholders, and preparing policy recommendations regarding sector reforms. The goal is to create a comprehensive roadmap for a successful spectrum auction by April next year.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of the digital economy and digital integration as vital components of the country’s economic transformation. He stated that the government is determined to enhance connectivity and improve digital infrastructure to ensure the widespread adoption of emerging digital technologies and innovative applications. This initiative aims to drive cross-sector socio-economic development, transform economic activities, and achieve sustainable development goals.
